Draconis Combine - 12th Ghost Regiment: Ninja-To NJT-2

30 March 2010

One of my projects from a couple of years back was to complete a company of mechs for the 12th Ghost Regiment. Inevitably this project fell to the wayside alongside everything else over the past couple of years, but perhaps I'll get the project back on track once more.

Time will tell.

Still, in the meantime, no reason not to show this off here. I was quite pleased with the final result (even if the sculpt is grossly out scale with respect to other mechs of the same weight). The hand painted Draconis Combine symbol on the left shoulder came out particularly well.

Blue Orchid Assassin

28 March 2010

The Reaper drive continues with the addition of the blue orchid assassin (whatever that is). I picked up this mini, not so much because I liked the sculpt, but more because I figured the dominant cloak would make for an interesting painting task.

I decided to go with a blue cloak in the end, as opposed to something black - after all would you expect the man in the blue cloak to be an assassin?

I probably should have used a slightly different colour for the boots in retrospect. Having them the same colour as the leather armour looks a bit strange. If that's my only gripe, however, I think I can consider this a job well done.

Boris, Evil Fighter

26 March 2010

The Reaper miniatures continue to move off of the end of the painting desk, with Boris being the latest edition to the painted collection.

The (dragonscale?) armour came out a touch brighter than what I originally intended, but I ended up quite liking the final result. The final colour complimented the bone colour quite well. I was particularly pleased with the bones jutting out of the shoulder plate.

I shifted away from using metallic paint as well. Think I prefer the flat paint look. Although my NMM still clearly has a long way to go.

Gungor, Half-Orc Monk

24 March 2010

Struck with a wave of enthusiasm after finishing the first two paint jobs, I broke into yet another Reaper fantasy miniature. This was certainly one sculpt that I was looking forward to painting as I started!

And I'm exceptionally happy with the result. As a whole everything seems to come together really well, and the orange seems to offer a good contrast against the darker skin tones used on the abundant flesh regions. The eyes could probably be improved, but unfortunately would probably acquire a smaller brush.

Clan Jade Falcon: Marauder IIC 3

22 March 2010

There are more recent completed paint jobs on route, but in the meantime here's one of my paint jobs from just before I had to stop a couple of years ago.

It's a Marauder IIC 3 painted in a bright green parade scheme for Clan Jade Falcon. The miniature itself was based from the standard reseen Marauder IIC miniature. The left side of the engine was hacked out and replaced with the missile launchers from the reseen Warhammer IIC, and the weapon barrels smooted down with a file.

I still consider the result to be amongst the highlights of my Battletech collection. It's one of my long ongoing plans to complete a star of mechs in this scheme...

Toreth, Elf

20 March 2010

Given the recent restart to these painting efforts it seemed to make sense to initially work on a set of unique pieces, as opposed to a larger unit. As such I took a look at the line of Reaper fantasy miniatures, some of which I really like.

Hopefully over the fullness of time some of these will get a use in a roleplaying game or two.

The first Reaper miniature to be painted is shown in the image to the right. Again I'm relatively happy with the result. The cloak worked quite well, even with the limited highlighting - especially from the back (not seen here unfortunately). Not convinced by the especially yellow hair in retrospect. But hey - live and learn!

Battletech HexPack

19 March 2010

Well this looks like quite a good idea - might have to pick this up when it's released:

It strikes me as far more sensible than the old method of releasing entire new map sheets every so often. It's certainly good to see the game expand in a slightly new and improved direction!

Mercenary War Orc

18 March 2010

Well arguably this took a bit longer than expected, but I'm happy to report that painted miniatures have started to roll off the production line.

Given that the new paint set was purchased from the War Games Foundry it only seemed right that the first miniature to be painted would be one of their sculpts. Luckily I had one lying around - an orc I seem to recall I gained as a freebie somewhere along the line.

Overall I'm quite pleased with how this came out. The facial features could be better, as could the blue coat (somewhat hidden in the pic). But given that this was the first miniature painted in about two years - no major complaints!
